The Montblanc 1858 Geosphere Limited Edition "Desert" (Ref. MB128504/128504) is a 2021 limited-edition piece from the 1858 collection, limited to 1,858 pieces. The design uses desert-inspired earth tones, and the caseback features a detailed engraving of the Gobi's Flaming Cliffs (Bayanzag), famous for paleontological finds (including dinosaur eggs and fossils discovered by Roy Chapman Andrews in the 1920s). It also includes a wind-rose compass with Mongolian-inspired patterns. Two curved globes evolving in an opposite direction make a complete rotation in 24 hours. The globes are surmounted by a graduation for the 24 time zones and a day/night indicator in contrasting colors. The different time zones can thus be apprehended intuitively, using the luminescent continents which improve visibility and performance in darkness.
