One of the most beautiful, affordable field watches available for auction today is the Breitling Chronomat Colt A17388. This piece presents in excellent preowned condition with minor scratches on the case, clasp, and links on the bracelet. Purchased by a private collector, this piece has only been owned by two collectors and is ready for a new home. We will ship with all original boxes, booklets, extra links, and Breitling travel case.
Field watches were first designed for use in WWI and are defined as watches designed to be durable and accurate for military purposes. Historically, soldiers and collectors enjoy a large, no-nonsense dial, stainless case, and glare-proof crystal.
When Breitling created this Chronomat Colt, details were key to being equally beautiful but under the radar. Many enthusiasts find that despite this timepiece measuring a broad 44mm, it is comfortable to wear on many wrists. This is thanks partly to the fact that it’s a remarkably flat timepiece, measuring only 11.25mm thick.
A simple, readable, and beautiful black dial with a lovely yet subtle tempest gray sunburst color pattern is surrounded by a fully captive steel bezel with large router tabs at the twelve, three, six, and nine positions. The hands and indices are made of rhodium-plated steel. At 3 o'clock, you will find the no-nonsense date display, all protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.
The steel case boasts a 200m (660ft) water resistance housing Breitling's self-winding Calibre B17 movement (based on the ever-reliable ETA 2824), offering a 42-hour power reserve. Finished with a satin brushed look, the Chronomat Colt has a clean and elegant presence on the wearer's wrist. For those timing dives or other by-the-minute activities, the 120-click bezel offers a 0 to 60-minute count time.
Breitling's attention to detail also shines through in the links of the bracelet, fixed by screws and polished with the same satin finishing touch as the case. The flip-lock clamshell clasp allows for a secure lock. It has removable links attached by screws to fit nearly any wrist.
The only question that remains is, will that lucky wrist be yours?
