The Offshore Diver is the Royal Oak at its most purpose built, and the grey dial is the version that lets the design speak. The grey Méga Tapisserie pattern gives the dial real depth, the white gold markers and Royal Oak hands glow under luminescent coating, and the blue inner rotating bezel with its white 60 to 15 minute zone adds just enough color. With the eight hexagonal screws and the second crown at 10 o’clock that turns the inner bezel, it reads as pure Offshore from across the room, but I think the grey keeps it more versatile than any other color in the line. Inside is AP’s selfwinding Calibre 4308 with 32 jewels and a 60 hour power reserve, visible through the sapphire caseback. The 42mm steel case is 14.2mm thick, water resistant to 300 meters, and finished with screw locked crowns. AP’s interchangeable strap system lets you swap between the grey rubber and blue rubber straps in seconds, both closing on the AP folding clasp. It’s a serious dive watch that still feels unmistakably Audemars Piguet on the wrist.
